Fast Passes
Magic Bands were being piloted on our first trip to Disney. I am so glad Disney went to this system. I love being able to take no money to the parks. The other benefit of the Magic Band system is loading your fast passes so you do not have to fumble around with cards at the rides. If you stay on Disney property, you can add your fast passes 60 days in advance. Individuals not staying on Disney property can only do so 30 days in advance (except at choice partner hotels). The booking time starts at 7 am and Disney pros know you have to be on right at 7 am to secure high-demand rides, like Flights of Passage and the new Slink Dog roller coaster.
My family is filled with early risers. We usually get to the parks right after rope drop. We love staying on Disney property because another advantage is "magic hours". Some days choice parks open early or extend closing hours only for those staying on Disney property. Magic Kingdom’s Frontier Land doesn’t open early so we head to Tomorrowland to ride the Buzz Lightyear ride. Then we work our way over to Fantastyland, riding rides like Space Mountain and the Tomorrowland Speedway along the way. For our family, making fast passes between 10-1 is ideal. You can book up to 3 fast passes in advance, but they must all be at the same park. Once the three are used, you can immediately get on the MyDisneyExperience App to add another. Tip: add the fast pass you want regardless of the time. You can go in and modify the time. Surprisingly as people switch their fast passes, you’ll be able to modify yours to ride what you want at earlier times. Then again, once your 4th fast pass is used, start the cycle again. I can do this where we constantly ride rides back to back!
In demand fast passes:
Magic Kingdom— Dwarf’s Mine Train, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Railroad, Buzz Lightyear
Do not fast pass—Small World or Dumbo
Animal Kingdom— Flights of Passage, Safari, Everest, Festival of the Lion King, Kali, Dinosaur
Hollywood Studios — Toy Story Midway Mania, Tower of Terror, Rock'n'Roller Coaster (this will change once Toy Story Land opens as well as Galaxy's Edge)
Epcot—Frozen, Soarin, Test Track
Note: Certain parks tier their fast passes. For example, at Epcot you have to select either Frozen, Soarin, or Test Track. You can not select all three.
